EPIC Lens is an occasional series showcasing EPIC’s photographers. This is the first episode where we celebrate (or curse!) falling back to standard time with the beauty found in both light and darkness.

A Portal to the Past
by Ben Wick, Multimedia Producer
While in Phoenix for the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America Conference and Tradeshow I went on a short hike around dusk with some co-workers. I was drawn to the symmetry and graphic quality of the building and the contrast of the artificial light with the dark black mountains and the last bit of blue natural light in the background and sky. I used a wide angle to emphasize the lines from the structure.

Starry Night
by Ben Wick, Multimedia Producer
My wife and I recently visited Madeline Island. One evening we had a fire on the beach looking south toward the Porcupine Mountains. The sky was clear and the stars looked incredible. I wanted to try and capture the Milky Way and practice some long exposure photography. I liked how our campfire was lighting the rocks, and I thought it grounded the shot, so I widened out to fit them in the frame.

Green Dawn
by Scott Baldwin, Videographer + Editor
It was a crisp fall morning in November. I wanted to capture the interaction between the golf course superintendent and his maintenance staff as he drove up to the green. By positioning the camera on the shadow side of the scene I could highlight the golden light shining across the lush greens, giving the course a warm inviting glow, and elongating their silhouettes.
